Precision Spindle Repair

Part of an important niche within the manufacturing community, Spindle Repair is a critical service ensuring the effectiveness and precision of CNC milling and CNC grinding components . As spindle are typically the most frequently used part of machining systems, they require regular maintenance to ensure the success of machining. Given their make up of a variety of small and interdependent parts, suppliers offer essential service to those who rely on applications requiring machining.

In addition, given the increasing need for faster products, there has also been a growing demand for high speed spindles which in turn has resulted in a need for high speed spindle repair

Spindle Repair and rebuilding services are employed to restore machine spindles to maximum efficiency. In lathes, CNC machining centers, milling machines and other manufacturing devices, spindles are rotating mechanisms that drive the cutting tool. The spindle is either directly attached directly to the cutting tool or attached via a spindle-mounted adapter system. A wide assortment of these systems are available, including caterpillar tapered shank adapters (CAT V), Hollow Shank Kegel adapters (HSK) and hydraulic and shrink fit adapters.

Because spindles are essentially the most frequently used component in a machining system, their parts receive a great deal of wear, and therefore require regular maintenance. Given extensive use, even the most well designed spindles may require repair. Spindles are typically cylindrical units comprised of a variety of smaller components, including the spindle housing, a spindle shaft, various fittings and bearings. The bearings in a spindle are of extreme importance because they allow the shaft to rotate without contact with other parts. They also receive excessive wear, and may need replacement after prolonged use.

Spindle Repair services will perform a complete inspection of all spindle components and of the entire machining system. Bearings are examined for proper lubrication, overspeeding and contamination, while the machining system is inspected for misaligned parts, overloading and improper tooling. Depending on the condition of the spindle, the repair company will recommend replacement, rebuilding or simple maintenance. Damaged components will be repaired or remanufactured according to the nature of the operation and the extent of the damage.

Typically, spindle repair requires the complete disassembly of the spindle. This allows for rebalancing of spindle components, replacement of faulty or worn bearings, grinding or rebuilding of shafts, and ultrasonic cleaning of all parts. Once all necessary services have been performed, the spindle will be reassembled in a secure and clean environment.
